Selected reading

Three focused guides.

Choose one question, try the suggested method and keep notes on what changes.

01

Houseplant propagation

Choose healthy material

Take a cutting from a vigorous plant with a clean tool and identify the relevant node for that species. Do not remove large amounts from a stressed plant. Check whether the plant is appropriate for water or mix propagation.

02

Houseplant propagation

Control the environment

Provide light without harsh direct exposure and keep the medium clean and appropriately moist. Label each cutting with date and method. Rooting time varies, so look for growth rather than expecting a fixed deadline.

03

Houseplant propagation

Move on gradually

When roots are established, transfer to a suitable small pot and monitor the transition. Avoid overwatering a newly potted cutting. Keep a simple record of failures as well as successes.
